What happens when you use the checker

Pore Evidence is a static site. It has no application programming interface, no database and no endpoint that accepts your input, so there is nowhere for the text you type to be sent even in principle.

When you paste an ingredient list, the parsing and the comparison against the evidence dataset happen locally, in the browser tab, against data that was downloaded with the page. When you scan a label with the camera or a file, the optical character recognition also runs locally, using a recognition engine that is downloaded to your device and executed there. The image is never uploaded, never stored by this site, and is discarded when you leave or reset the page.

Nothing you check is written to a profile, associated with you, or retained between visits.

Analytics

The production site loads Google Analytics 4, which sets cookies in your browser and reports general usage to Google: pages viewed, approximate location derived from your IP address, device and browser type, and how you arrived at the site. That is Google’s standard measurement, and Google processes it as described in its own policies.

Beyond page views, this site sends exactly one custom event, when a check completes. It carries four values, and it is worth being specific about them because the omission is deliberate:

• whether the list was pasted or scanned;
• how many ingredients the list contained;
• how many of them were recognised; and
• whether evidence coverage for the list was none, partial or complete.

The event does not include the ingredient list, any individual ingredient name, the recognised text from a photo, or the image. Those never leave the browser, so they are not available to send. The counts describe the shape of a lookup, not its content, and they exist so the dataset can be extended where it is failing people rather than where it is convenient.

Advertising

The production site loads Google’s advertising script. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve and measure ads, including personalised ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

You can review and turn off personalised advertising in Google’s ad settings, and you can read how Google uses information from sites that use its services in Google’s partner-sites policy. Advertising is what pays for the hosting and the time spent reading papers; it does not influence what the evidence pages say, and nothing on this site is a paid placement or an affiliate link.

Hosting

The site is served from Amazon Web Services. Like any web host, it records ordinary request data such as IP address, timestamp and the file requested, for delivery, security and troubleshooting. That is a byproduct of serving a page, not something this site collects for its own purposes.

Your choices

Blocking cookies for this domain, using a content blocker, or browsing privately will stop the analytics and advertising scripts. The checker itself keeps working when you do, because it does not depend on either — if you block everything, you lose nothing except the ads and the counts described above.

This site is not directed at children, and it does not knowingly collect anything from them. It also does not sell personal information, because it does not collect any to sell.

Changes

If what the site loads changes, this page changes with it, and the version published here is the one that applies. How the evidence is gathered and rated is described on the methodology page, and the terms cover the rest.
